Meet Our Teams

Rich Goodwin and 'Keota'
Rich has been with West Jersey for 18 years. His current dog is Keota. Rich started out with a bloodhound and moved on to air scent when his hound was retired. Rich has responded to over 300 searches. Rich and Keota also responded to 9/11 on Staten Island for the recovery of loved ones from Ground Zero. Rich is M.S.O. certified and has attended many seminars and has been in charge of K-9 training at the Pennsylvania S.A.R.-X for many years.

Katrene Johnson and
'Morgan (Right) & Maia (below)

Katrene is the President of West Jersey K-9 and has training skills, which served many wonderful K-9’s.  Currently Katrene is working with two English Springer Spaniels who have tough shoes to fill since the passing of Katrene's old rescue dog 'Dan'. Dan was famous for his many wilderness, cadaver  and water search and rescues.
Morgan is a 4 year old English Springer Spaniel who is up to any challenge she me come across. The hundreds of hours logged in her training is apparent when you watch her methodically work out a difficult HRD problem. Morgan is a seasoned veteran, certified in HRD and water search work.

As you can see in this picture, her happy smile and intent gaze on Katrene shows you just how much fun she has doing the job.

Harley and Shelly
Harley has been a SAR dog handler since 1989. He has also been a Deputy and a K9 handler for New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife since 1993, where he has trained dogs to locate firearms and ammunition as well as a bloodhound handler. An accomplished woodsman he is at home in the wilderness and able to use visual clues to track without a dog.

Linda Cardell and “Kobie”
Linda and Kobie joined West Jersey K9 when Kobie was just one year of age. Kobie is a certified Air Scent K9 Level I. Linda and Kobie will be taking their 65 Acre Level II Evaluation in March of 2006. This team is also working towards being certified in both water search and Human Remains Detection (HRD)

As the Education Officer for the team, Linda assures the teams training logs are up to date and that all team goals are met. Linda is an NIMS compliant EMT who brings strengths in both the medical and incident command system to the teams membership. As for Kobie, he brings the ‘golden’ touch to the team. His love of humans, especially children truly makes him enjoy his search work. His enthusiasm and drive is simply a joy to watch. Kobie and Linda was one of our team members who went to Mississippi in October of 2005 to search for victims of hurricane Katrina

Jerry and Callie
Jerry and Callie joined West Jersey in August of 2002 when Callie was just a puppy of 5 months old. Jerry, a Commander in the US Navy Reserve, brings extensive land and air navigation, SAR, and survival skills to the team. He is the team representative to the New Jersey SAR Council. Callie is qualified in Air Scent and currently working on Water search skills. Callie, like most on the team, dabble in agility and obedience. However her first love is to get out on a long search problem.
